In response to a warning about possible food illness, thousands of packets of Cadbury desserts are being removed from the shelves of supermarkets.
The items, which were manufactured by Muller, are being recalled due to the possibility that they were tainted with the bacteria listeria.
Intoxication with listeria results in the typical symptoms of food poisoning, but it poses a particularly grave risk to the elderly, pregnant women and their unborn kids, and people whose immune systems are already impaired.
Products recalled over concerns they may be contaminated with listeria bacteria
Cadbury Crunchie Chocolate Dessert, Cadbury Flake Chocolate Dessert, Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Dessert, and Cadbury Dairy Milk Chunks Chocolate Dessert are all being recalled as a precautionary measure.
Cadbury Heroes Chocolate Dessert (six pack) and Cadbury Daim Chocolate Dessert were also recalled as part of this incident.
According to the Food Standards Agency, the symptoms that can be produced by this organism include a high temperature, muscle soreness or pain, chills, feeling or being nauseous, and diarrhea. These symptoms can be similar to those caused by the flu.
The items may be returned for a refund to the store from which they were originally purchased.
