Mark Micallef has been appointed to the position of managing director of Google Cloud’s Southeast Asia division, as was disclosed by the company.
Micallef will be accountable for the regional strategy, the growth of teams, and the revenue performance of Google Cloud and Google Workspace in this capacity. Karan Bajwa, Vice President of Asia Pacific at Google Cloud, will be his immediate supervisor. He will report directly to Bajwa.
Micallef’s prior experience includes serving in executive capacities for such firms as Anaplan, Cloudera, Citrix, and Trend Micro.
Companies like AI Singapore, Axiata Group Berhad, Globe Telecom, and Nanyang Technological University are some of the organizations that have become customers of Google Cloud as the company has been increasing its footprint in Southeast Asia.
Recently, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) stated that it will be working with Google Cloud to develop generative artificial intelligence. The alliance intends to build artificial intelligence projects for the central bank’s internal usage and provide the people there with “deep AI skillsets.”
Additionally, Google is a member of the AI Verify Foundation in Singapore.
