After soliciting options over the past year, Air Algerie has made a provisional selection of jets manufactured by both Airbus and Boeing to fulfill a requirement for a fleet of 15 aircraft.
In a document related to the procurement process, the Algerian flag carrier mentions that it has made a provisional decision to purchase two Airbus A350-1000s and five Airbus A330-900s.
It intends to acquire eight Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft.
Air Algerie had issued a call for bids, which was open until the end of October of the previous year, for a total of 15 aircraft that were to be grouped into four groups based on their seat capacities.
Additionally, and in a separate process, the airline is looking for bids for an additional ten aircraft that will be obtained through dry-leasing.
This leasing tender includes a total of six aircraft: two A330-900s, four A330-200/300s, two 737 Max 9s, and two 737-800s. The deadline for the tender is May 22.
According to Air Algeria, the leasing tender is accessible to manufacturers, owners, and operators in addition to lessors.
The document goes on to say that “eligible candidates can submit their bids for one or more aircraft for each fleet type.”
With the exception of the A330-200 and A330-300 models, which will each be powered by a General Electric CF6 engine, all of the planes that are part of the carrier’s overall fleet modernization have engines that come from a single manufacturer.
