On Sunday, a visitor in their sixties was killed after they fell around 40 feet from the Lanikai Pillbox Trail.
The individual was alleged to have been pronounced deceased at the spot by the Honolulu EMS personnel.
In order to provide assistance to the family, a call was placed to the Hawaii Visitor Aloha Society.
“What is especially sad about this situation is that Sunday was the daughter’s 30th birthday, and they were celebrating, and they were going on the hike to celebrate,” said Jessica Lani Rich, of VASH. “They were going to celebrate by going on the hike.”
The hiker was part of a family of three from Maryland that arrived on Friday night, according to VASH.
“This is not the birthday the daughter was planning, and she is completely devastated,” said Rich. “This is not the birthday the daughter was planning.”
According to the state representative for the area, the unfortunate fatality on the well-used trail comes as a renovation project that will cost close to one million dollars is currently in the planning process.
“When they restore the trail there, the DLNR is committed to having a person, a human, there to do education.” “Would it be possible to use it in the future as a reservation system?” said state Representative Lisa Marten.
In spite of the challenges that they are facing, VASH has stated that they will maintain their support for the family.
