President Bola Tinubu promised Nigerian investors a better business environment.
Yesterday in the State House in Abuja, he pledged to Bharti Airtel founder and Global Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, Africa Group Chief Executive Segun Ogunsanya, and their staff.
The President welcomed the team and recalled his role in helping Econet Wireless enter Nigeria as governor of Lagos State to liberalize the industry.
He lauded the company’s progress and accepted the collaboration to boost Nigeria’s economy and end poverty.
Tinubu lauded India’s Asian economic domination and how technology has lifted millions from poverty.
Mitall, a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Business Advisory Council and a Nigerian businessman and investor, congratulated the President and extended his company’s and India’s goodwill.
He praised Tinubu’s three-week-old choices, which have put Nigeria back on the world commercial map.
“I came here to ask, but I have to say thank you first. We appreciate your gasoline subsidy elimination and currency repair. Foreign investments will stream in. You took these risks. Stay strong. Mitall stated, “Airtel is a strong telecoms company and ready to serve Nigeria.”
Since his tenure as Lagos State governor, Special Adviser to the President on Monetary Policy Wale Edun said the President has always recognized the transformative power of technology and telecommunications for economic growth.
Ogunsanya urged Tinubu to treat telecoms infrastructure destruction as a national security concern.
He stated, “It is in our interest to provide better service but we are always faced with the destruction of our infrastructure, especially our fibre optic cables. Protecting telecoms infrastructure is a national priority.
We support Nigeria’s digital revolution. Nigeria is my home nation and my main market. Digital change can lift millions from poverty.”
