While the majority of business leaders in the United Kingdom and Ireland, 66%, believe AI and automation have the potential to increase HR department efficiency and productivity, nearly half of HR managers, 43%, fear losing their jobs as more of their functions are automated, according to research from HR software company Personio.
73% of business executives believe HR will become more essential in the future, while 60% plan to implement more AI and automation into their HR department within the next five years.
64% believe that there is a clear opportunity for HR departments to leverage AI and automation to free up time to concentrate on supporting the long-term objectives of businesses.
British and Irish HR managers worry AI may replace them.
In light of recent technological advancements in generative AI, such as ChatGPT, 61% of business executives believe HR will be taken over by AI in the future, according to research conducted by Personio.
Ross Seychell, Chief People Officer at Personio, stated that AI is expected to elevate HR’s significance “by allowing a time-crunched department to focus more on business-critical issues such as building a great culture and overcoming retention challenges,” adding that new technology will also make administrative tasks more efficient.
Seychell also cited research indicating that 67% of business executives wish they had a better comprehension of what their HR department does.
“According to business leaders, HR will only grow in importance in the future,” Seychell continued. “Yet, despite this and the significance of the function during recent turbulent years, they acknowledge that they do not completely comprehend the role’s boundaries.
This challenge must be confronted head-on. HR teams can only realize their maximum potential if they continue to collaborate directly with business executives to demonstrate their value.
