Wednesday, businesswomen gathered in Homewood to discuss gun violence in the United States and methods to combat it.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 200 mass shootings in the United States this year.
Activist groups highlighted gun violence, gun control, and methods to take action during the event.
One of the organizers is Fundrage, a Google chrome extension that connects users to nonprofits actively addressing and resolving community issues such as gun violence. We spoke with the founder about the discussion’s key conclusions.
“It entails supplying people with resources so that when they feel helpless, their only response is not to switch off the news or feel hopeless. “We want them to feel like they have a toolbox of actions they can take immediately, which is why Fundrage was created in the first place,” said Fundrage’s founder, Maria Underwood.
Fundrage recommends nonprofit organizations based on the content of news articles.
The company collaborates with Charity Navigator to ensure that your donation goes to a legitimate, vetted charity. Fundrage is also planning to release a mobile application later this summer.
